Hi, I'm an BEng student going into their final year and am wondering what I can do to find a future career with Alstom
Additional information
My name is Sam Newton and I'm studying mechanical engineering at Carleton University and am willing to relocate to wherever in the world I would be needed. I want to know if there is anything I can do at this early stage to increase my odds of successfully finding a career with Alstom, thank you!

Hi Samuel,
Thanks for reaching out—and great to hear about your interest in Alstom! As a Talent Development Manager, I can definitely share some steps you can take now to increase your chances of building a career with us.
😁Here’s how you can get started:
1. Explore Alstom’s Early Career Programs
Alstom offers internships, graduate programs, and entry-level roles across engineering, operations, and project management. These are designed to give students and recent grads hands-on experience in sustainable mobility and rail innovation.
- Keep an eye on our Careers Page for openings in your final year.
- You can also follow Alstom on LinkedIn to stay updated on new opportunities and events.
2. Tailor Your Profile
Since you're studying mechanical engineering and open to relocating globally, you're already aligned with many of our technical roles. To stand out:
- Highlight any project work, CAD/FEA experience, or team-based engineering challenges.
- If you’ve worked on anything related to transportation, automation, or sustainability, make sure it’s visible on your resume and LinkedIn.
3. Connect with Alstom Employees
Networking can be powerful. Try:
- Reaching out to Alstom engineers or HR professionals on LinkedIn.
- Attending industry events or university career fairs where Alstom is present.
4. Consider a Thesis or Capstone Project with Alstom
Some students collaborate with companies for their final-year projects. If your university allows it, you could propose a topic aligned with Alstom’s work in rail systems, energy efficiency, or digital mobility.
5. Stay Curious and Informed
Understanding Alstom’s mission—mobility by nature—and our focus on green and smart transportation will help you align your goals with ours. Reading up on our latest projects and technologies will also prepare you for interviews.

Hello Claudia,
Thank you so much for the thoughtful response and all the helpful tips—I really appreciate it! I’ll be keeping an eye on Alstom’s early career programs and updating my resume/LinkedIn to highlight my projects and engineering experience.
I especially like the idea of connecting with Alstom engineers and possibly exploring a thesis or capstone project related to your work; however, there are some restrictions at Carleton as to what capstone projects are available.
If there is any occasion or event in the next 8 months to meet with Alstom hiring managers and engineers I would greatly appreciate it if you could notify me. However, I will do my best to take advantage of every opportunity to engage in Asltom that presents itself. Your advice has given me a lot of clarity and motivation, and I’m excited to keep learning more about Alstom and sustainable mobility.
Thanks again for your support—I hope we can stay in touch!
Best,
Samuel
