Proper planning and scheduling go a long way. For myself and my team, I always give realistic deliverable dates. Overpromising and under-delivering benefits nobody. As soon as a date is at risk, that is discussed with the project and my manager to develop the proper path forward, examine resource load, and reassess priorities. I will also block time off in my outlook calendar when I need to get certain assignments done.
