What do you like about your job and the company?

For me, participating into building a better future by actively contributing to positive change is what motivates me on a day to day. Whether it’s through innovation, collaboration, or advocating for what matters, I believe we all have a role to play. It’s about using our skills and passion to create opportunities, solve challenges, and inspire others to do the same. Every small action counts, and by working together, we can shape a future that’s more inclusive, sustainable, and full of potential.

I left my family and everything I knew behind to move to Montreal and pursue higher education. Now, home is a 13-hour flight away, with a 9-hour time difference. It wasn’t an easy transition, but I truly believe I wouldn’t be who I am today if I had stayed in my comfort zone. Having studied my entire life in the French education system, coming to an English-only university was a big challenge. But it pushed me to become fully bilingual because there was no other choice. I’d never lived anywhere where temperatures drop below zero—coming from a place where summer temperatures could reach 45 to 50 degrees (and I’m not exaggerating!). I had to find a way to adapt, or else I would have struggled to enjoy my time here for half the year. (Yes, skiing is now one of my many passions! ;) ) These experiences showed me that stepping out of your comfort zone, though tough at first, helps you build resilience and adaptability.

I like to approach a project as if I were joining a new team. We may have different interests, but we are all working together to achieve the same goal: to have a safe and functional train. A train is a very complex system, which means that a large number of people, each with their own specialty and character, are needed to achieve the goal. Throughout the project, you may have disagreements with your colleagues or even the client, but it's important to remember that we're all here for the same goal. Adhere to the contract and be a team player.

Professionally, I have worked for several companies, but only at Alstom did I see the culture of really valuing the intellectual capital of employees, of valuing and promoting the knowledge of its employees.

There are lots of knowledge silos at large engineering firms and it's useful to get to know people on other teams and understand what they do. I have often made progress much faster on issues with my subsystem by having relationships with engineers on other teams who often have relevant experience or understanding I would not have benefited from otherwise. Even areas I'm less involved with like project management, bids, or HR, have people willing to share a lot of information that helps me get a better understanding of the organization as a whole and all the things that go into making a project successful.
