From specifically an engineering standpoint, what are some I can expect to see? Also, I'm considering my next work term to be in Spring/Summer 2026 (May-August), when in advance would I likely start seeing postings?

You can expect to see internships in various engineering fields, including mechanical engineering, parts and components, interior components projects, project management, mechanical design, mechanical systems engineering, electromechanical engineering, acoustics engineering, and electrical engineering. And this his is a non-exhaustive list ! :)
You will likely start to see the postings for this positions around 2-3 months prior to the start term

Great, thanks! One more thing, I'm thinking about adding Rail Specialization to my studies at Ontario Tech. Given that I won't yet have any rail-related coursework until next year with the Intro to Railway Systems course, would it still be considered an asset to have the specialization even applying beforehand? And what are ways in which I can involve myself in the meantime to help cater my resume to a rail position?

It’s definitely great to show interest in pursuing the railway specialization! For an internship, it will really become an advantage once you will started taking the courses, as those learnings will set you apart from other candidates. That said, recruiters definitely value your motivation and interest in the specialization.
As for your resume, getting involved in university clubs and staying curious about what’s happening in the railway industry can also make a big difference and help you stand out during interviews.
